Stinson Buries OT Winner!

v15Ryan Komori carried the puck into the Cougars zone, then fed a pass to Mark Stinson who quickly fired it into the mesh behind Max Pelzner for the OT victory. The Braves take a 2-0 lead in the best of 7 series.

Tanner McGaw was brilliant again making 50 saves for his 2nd victory in as many nights.

The Cougars opened the scoring 7:29 into it as Jimmy Carter took a pass from Chris Savage, skated in close on McGaw and snapped it low under the blocker to take their first lead in the series.

36 seconds later the Braves tied it up as Brad Dick centred the puck from behind the net to Allex Wong who quickly rifled it over the blocker of Pelzner and into the top corner. Blaine Carey with the 2nd assist.

Less then two minutes later Eric Guthrie fed Jesse Grieve a pass who beat McGaw with a wrist shot under the cross bar.

Again the Braves replied as only 42 seconds later Komori picked up a loose puck in the Cougars zone and beat Pelzner with a rocket over his blocker.

The Cougars out shooting the Braves 17-8. One penalty in the period called by referee Byron Ellingson and it was a tripping minor to the Braves.

Just one goal in the middle frame and it was the Cougars taking the lead again as Wade Masch laying on the ice swiped it into the top corner. Guthrie credited with the lone assist midway through the period.

Cougars with the shot lead 14-5. One minor called on each team.

After a chat from Coach Cook in the intermission it only took the Braves 69 seconds to tie it up as Travis Stephens carried the puck in and found Brandon Nicholson's tape on his stick who quickly beat Pelzner with a low shot under the glove.

No penalties called the remainder of the game. Cougars with a 13-6 shot advantage.

On to overtime and it would be the two Braves veterans getting it done with 1:55 remaining as Komori crossed over the blue line and found Stinson on the right side who made no mistake wristing it into the back of the net behind Pelzner giving Coach Brad Cook a nice 35th birthday present.

Cougars out shooting the Braves 9-3 in OT, 53-22 over all.

Tanner McGaw was the 1st Star, Mark Stinson the 2nd Star and Brandon Nicholson the 3rd Star.

Game 3 moves back to Esquimalt on Sunday night. Puck drops at 7:15pm.
